Starbucks for 10 cents off

Starbucks gives a slight incentive for bringing in reusable mugs for your daily cuppa. I found out all about this today (even though I’ve taken my Shakespeare mug in for at least a month now), when I bought a lovely new mug and got 10 cents off my Gingerbread Latte (that was 10 cents, not .10 cents for any of you who’ve followed the controversy over the passed proposition to add an .80 cent sales tax to cigarettes for early childhood education).

Apparently, this discount is well-known in some circles. Less than an hour after making this exciting discovery, I perused my Treehugger feeds and found this “Bring Your Own” blog that tells you all about the stores that offer discounts for bringing your own. It’s not much, but that 10 cents adds up to a whopping $10.40/year in savings for an average person who buys coffee twice a week. That’s good for three extra Gingerbread Lattes every year. Plus, you have the satisfaction of knowing you’ve made a difference.

This is lifted from the Bring Your Own site:

Peets, Starbucks, Wild Oats, Whole Foods, and many others will throw you a dime for doing the right thing.

In case you were wondering about the new mug, here you go:

Something new, yay! I also have the mug in a pink background with brown script. It satisfies my love of all things pink. Go pink!
